Dhaka, Bangladesh
Dhaka is a megacity facing water security issues due to its rapid population growth and urbanization trends. Groundwater resources are the main source of drinking water for residents; however, the city is working to diversify its water resources matrix by supplementing with surface water resources, which require treatment due to domestic and industrial wastewater contamination. Along with international partners, Dhaka is working on expanding its water supply, sewerage, and drainage systems guided by master plans with USD 6.3 billion earmarked for improvements in these areas over the coming decades.
